After we got off the train and were walking to the hotel, we recognized this place because we used to get our books for school here.
The sidewalks on this main road are huge and a lot of them are marble
We got settled in the hotel and met up with Pat, dad and some of his old work friends for wine and antipasti
I forgot how foggy Verona gets...
The next day we did looked at the markets in Piazza Erbe
A Christmas tree!
The Christmas markets nearby
More of Piazza Erbe
Then we went to Giulietta's balcony
Ahh there she is. You are supposed to touch her right breast for good luck, that's why it's so shiny.
I remember this place too! We had a bite to eat here.
On the way to our old apartment...
We stopped by this bakery because we had to pick up our favorite apple tort
Where we used to go for gelato many, many times
Our old grocery store!
This is our street...
And here it is! Unfortunately we can't remember what floor we were on...(but it was high enough so we would take the elevator)
Little part next door where Kristen and I would constantly play volleyball
We couldn't get in
Another gelateria by the river we went to a lot, but not just for scoops of gelato. We would order gelato masterpieces here.
'Noi per sempre' = Us forever
Basilica di San Zeno. Unfortunately the facade is being repaired
After a very long walk around the city, we had pizza at Numero Cinque (#5 in case you didn't get that)
A really neat light fixture hanging right outside the pizzeria
Pizza
Haha I just like Kristen's face
The view of Piazza Bra from the Arena!
Inside
Only that little section of the outer wall remains, and they were doing construction on it :(
Dad got in a fight and banged his head pretty bad...
We met some real gladiators!
Dad had to pick up grappa before we left (you can't get the good stuff in the US)
Our old school!
The main entrance
Before leaving we stopped at Castelvecchio (old castle). It's really more of a fort
Adige river
Yay, it's us!
On the train back to Florence, we ate the apple tort as a kind of birthday cake
Cause it was our birthday over fall break!
That's all for Verona, but they spent a few days in Florence and on the last night we ate THIS
Bistecca alla Fiorentina (Florentine Steak), a specialty of Florence that people kept telling us we need to try while we are here. The steak is just seared on the outside with some seasoning and it is rare in the middle, it was delicious!
